This classic fatteh is made of chickpeas and toasted pita bread with a garlicky tahini yogurt. It is flavored with cumin and is topped with toasted pine nuts. That’s an ultimate comfort food in most of Levantine cuisines and can be eaten for breakfast or any other time of the day
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups Chickpeas
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 1/4 cup Pine nuts
- 2 Garlic cloves, Crushed
- 1/2-1 tsp Ground cumin
- 2 full tbsp Yogurt (laban)
- 1 full tbsp Greek strained yogurt (labneh)
- 2 tbsp Tahini
- 2-3 cups Toasted arabic bread pieces
- Salt, to taste
- Cumin seeds to decorate , to decorate (optional)

Method
- 1)
In a small pot, melt the butter with the olive oil
- 2)
Add the pine nuts and gently toast them until golden. Keep aside in the pan, we’re going to use everything in the pan.
- 3)
In a small bowl, whisk together the yogurt, labneh, the tahini, the crushed garlic clove, the cumin and a bit of salt.
Whisk well then taste to check the seasoning. - 4)
In a serving plate, place the bread first, then the chickpeas. Spoon the garlicky yogurt on top and swirl around.
Top with the pine nuts and the melted butter and oil. - 5)
Decorate with the cumin seeds if using.
