Meghli- or the ultimate love language! It is a sweet, thick and spicy rice pudding topped with piles of shredded coconut and meticulously peeled tiny nuts. It is usually served to celebrate a new birth and Christmas, usually both super hectic and busy periods!
Now although the ingredients are super simple, this dessert requires a lottt of patience as it is boiled and simmered for a long time – hence the name! Meghli= boiled!

Ingredients
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1¼ cup white sugar
- 2 tbsp ground caraway
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ground anise (or an extra tbsp of cinnamon)
- 8 cups water plus
- 1 cup to soak nuts Mixed nuts pistachios, almonds, walnuts
- Shredded coconut
- Edible flowers (optional)
Method
- 1)
Place the dry ingredients in a large pot. Whisk everything very well together until combined.
- 2)
Add the water and bring to a boil on medium heat. Lower to your lowest possible setting and keep whisking and simmering for about 1 to 1h30 or until really thick and almost “gummy”.
- 3)
Transfer to small individual cups or a large serving dish.
- 4)
Allow to cool, then sprinkle with shredded coconut and chill in the fridge for about 2 hours until set.

Decorate with the peeled nuts and edible flowers if desired.
