Gâteau au chocolat or chocolate chunk sheet cake. I felt like sharing this recipe in French- any frenchies in the crowd? It’s a super delicious and easy cake, save it, make it and let me know! Bon appétit x

INGREDIENTS

  • 250g butter, softened
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 125g soft light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs, , room temp
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 50g good-quality cocoa powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 100g dark chocolate, , coarsely chopped

METHOD

  • 1)

    Preheat the oven to 180°C.

  • 2)

    Grease and line a deep-sided baking tin, 20cm x 25cm or 25cm x 25cm

  • 3)

    In the large bowl using a hand held mixer or in the bowl a stand alone mixer, beat the butter and both sugars together until light and fluffy, about 3-4min. Add the eggs, one by one, beating well after each addition.

  • 4)

    The mixture will look curdled but don’t worry.

  • 5)

    Mix the flour, cocoa and salt, then sift over the egg mixture. Fold in using a large metal spoon or a rubber spatula.

  • 6)

    Beat until well combined then add the milk and stir. Fold in the chocolate chips.

  • 7)

    Don’t overmix.

  • 8)

    Pour into the prepared tin and level the top using the back of a spoon or a spatula.

  • 9)

    Bake for 25min (adjust according to the pan size) until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean.

  • 10)

    Cool on a wire rack for 10min then turn over to cool completely.
